The Stone is More Stone Than Before, 1994

The bibliography for a nonexistent book on architecture that suggests that of the biography Mies van der Rohe by Franz Schulze, flanked by a framed copy of the book itself and a photograph of Mies’s famed towers at 860–880 lake Shore Drive in Chicago. Carroll displaced Schulze’s bibliography with actual bibliographic entries from works critical of public housing and social engineering. The piece addresses the presentation of architectural history and the relationship between primary and secondary sources while also considering the bibliography as a material for art making in itself.
